Medical Microdermabrasion
Your skin continually takes a beating from the sun, pollution and the effects of
aging. Microdermabrasion is a very popular non-surgical cosmetic technique used to
refresh the skin and reduce the effects of environmental and age related damage to
your skin. The process entails virtually no discomfort, downtime or recovery. You
can not find a better, more sensible skin smoothing strategy!
What Are The Benefits of Microdermabrasion?
There are many potential benefits from Microdermabrasion.
- Gives the skin an overall fresh, healthy glow
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduces appearance of uneven skin tones
- Reduces the appearance of superficial scarring
- Reduces appearance of uneven skin textures
- Decreases enlarged pore size
The best benefits are obtained by clients that combine a good skin
care regime with microdermabrasion as well as avoidance of environmental pollutants
such as smoking and tanning.
Am I a Canidate For Microdermabrasion?
There are some medical conditions that could preclude treatment, but generally there
would only be limitations placed on how aggressive we can treat you. During your
complementary consultation, we will review your health history to address any concerns.
What Can I Expect When I Come In For
Microdermabrasion?
Patients typically compare the microderm sensation to a slight wind-blown effect. The
level of discomfort is usually quite minimal, but is dependent on the degree of penetration
needed to obtain the desired outcome. The gentle abrasion or “polishing” is accomplished
by using a handpeice that has a diamond tip that is used to gently abrade the top layer, the
epidermis, of the skin, combined with
suction to remove the outer layer of dead skin cells. A rehydrating moisturizer and
sunscreen is applied to your skin following a relaxing steam treatment.
Is It Safe?
The procedure is extremely safe due to the limited penetration to the layers of the
skin. The diamond tip applicators are carefully sanitized after each patient to ensure your
safety.
What Areas of The Body Can Be Treated?
The face is the most common treatment area but the neck, chest, hands and back are
also possible. Many times the face and neck are treated together which takes
approximately 45 minutes. The face requires about 30 minutes.
What can I Expect After Treatment?
There is redness (erythema) afterwards that generally resolves within hours
after the procedure. This allows you to return to your normal activities
immediately. Makeup may be applied as desired, but it is recommended that you
refrain from using liquid foundations or pressed powder foundations for 24 hours.
If sunscreen is not a part of your normal routine, you will need to include it. Your
skin will be much more
sensitive to sun exposure for the next few days and it will be important to
protect it. We also recommend that you continue to apply a good moisturizer to
enhance the outcome.
How Often Do I Need a Treatment?
The frequency of treatments depend on what concerns you are treating. Generally,
microdermabrasion is done every 7-10 days for 5-12 times to achieve maximum
results. Maintenance of results requires periodic follow-up treatments
approximately 6-8 weeks apart.
